Ingredients

These fluffy and creamy mashed potatoes only need a few ingredients that are already in your kitchen!

  • Potatoes – I prefer using Yukon Gold potatoes because they’re softer, rich in flavor, and have thin skin, so it’s okay to leave a little skin on. You can also use russet or red potatoes, but you may need to boil them longer.
  • Butter – Butter adds to the flavor and creaminess of the mashed potatoes.
  • Milk – Milk adds to the creaminess and richness. For extra creamy potatoes, use half and half.
  • Salt and Pepper – To taste.

How to Make Mashed Potatoes with the Kitchen-Aid

Follow this simple recipe for the best mashed potatoes you’ve had in 30 minutes.

  • Start by gathering 3 pounds of Yukon Gold potatoes. You can use any type of potato you prefer, but Yukon gold is the best for creamy potatoes. Wash the potatoes and peel the skin, and chop into cubes. It’s okay if you leave some bits of skin on the potatoes.

  • Put the potatoes in a large pot and cover with water. Bring to a boil and let the potatoes continue to boil for about 8 minutes or until fork tender.
  • Drain out the water and put the potatoes in the bowl of the stand mixer. Mix on medium for 30 seconds. Add the butter, milk, and salt and mix on medium speed for another couple of minutes. Be careful not to over-mix. If you want to get every clump out, switch to the whisk attachment and mix for another minute.

No KitchenAid? No Problem

If you don’t have a KitchenAid stand mixer, you can use a potato masher and mash the potatoes after you boil and drain them. You can also use an electric hand mixer.

Tools You’ll Need

  • Peeler – To remove the skins of the potatoes.
  • Large Pot – To boil the potatoes and get them all soft.
  • KitchenAid Mixer – Using a stand mixer makes making mashed potatoes so much easier and your arm won’t be sore from hand mixing and mashing.
